Bio

Music connoisseur and lover of all genres, Renée Melendez, learned to DJ at the early age of 12. Taught by her mother (who was also a musician), Renée developed a fine ear for music at a very young age Renée began DJ’ing professionally in 2010. During the pandemic in 2020, Renée joined Quantize Recordings (the label founded by the legendary production duo DJ Spen & Thommy Davis). She currently serves as the Director of Musical Content for the label, which she listens & selects promo music submitted by other artists/labels. Throughout her time DJ’ing, Renée has had the privilege of playing in NY, NJ, Baltimore, Richmond, Mexico & London (at Ministry of Sound). Renée actively produces for Quantize and uploads mixes on her MixCloud & SoundCloud, as well as venturing onto other streaming platforms. While working for Quantize Recordings she is continually honing her craft under the mentorship of DJ Spen & Thommy Davis, and combines a little bit of NJ, NY, Chicago & Baltimore into her style.

What does liberation mean to you?

Liberation is FREEDOM! It’s freedom to be whomever you choose to be with no boundaries or limitations, no labels & no judgements. It’s freedom from a society which chooses to label & classify everything little thing about a person, allowing them to just…BE! Music, specifically Dance music, is the one thing in this world that liberates people physically, spiritually & emotionally from whatever bondage they are facing. Music has no boundaries.
