Opal Underground: Black Techno Matters Takeover
✊🏿Opal Underground: Black Techno Matters Takeover✊🏿
This month to recognize and honor Black History Month, Opal Underground has invited Black Techno Matters to take over our party.
🎛️Live Performance:
B X R N X R D (DC) - Bernard Farley is a multi-disciplinary artist and founder of Black Techno Matters. Under the name Outputmessage, he’s put out dozens of albums and EPs starting in 2003 with “Bernard’s Song” (released on Ghostly while he was in college studying number theory and algebraic topology). Other highlights include the electronic pop of “40000km” (2012) which has over 300K plays on Spotify and the protest music video “Wake the Fuck Up!” (2020) which shows his masterful movements as a dancer and performance artist. Born in Queens, NY, Bernard finally settled in Washington, DC in 2006. This led to his role as a producer and vocalist in the indie-dance group Volta Bureau whose song “Alley Cat” topped the Beatport charts and has over a million plays on YouTube. B_X_R_N_X_R_D is his new decolonized musical identity: “Each time I jack into my tr-8s machines, I aim to create visceral drum music that is rooted in our past, liberates us in the present, and opens portals into an alternate future.”
🎧DJs:
DJ DISSOLVE - DJ DISSOLVE is 4th generation Portlander, Producer, DJ, and co-founder of the artist collective Soul House. His musical taste is heavily influenced by 90s era R&B and hip hop , specifically his mom’s “clean the house” mixtapes including artists like Aaliyah, Ashanti, and 2pac. His taste for the underground was heavily shaped by a 2019 academic semester spent studying in Germany, where he was finally able to grasp the global influence of Chicago house and Detroit techno. His goal when getting behind a mixing board, turntables, or a pair of CDJs is always the same, to make the urge to move - irresistible.
Lu - Lu is a NY transplant that has for the past 6 years been djing around the Portland nightlife scene. They have many influences in music taste what spans from 80s/ Darkwave/New-wave/EBM (Which they currently DJ at Portland's top goth club, The Coffin Club) to UK Bass music (which they are apart of PULLUP PDX CREW) to now co-hosting with KP Ariel Renee, Haato Amelie Ramona Christman and DJ Xenith Witchhouse Collective, Ophelia PDX.Their sound is as intricate as their influenced by Bristol UK's melting pot of electronic music and Beyond, incorporating bass music, with the realms of Witchhouse, Wave, Memphis/Phonk and Dungeon synth/rap.With that they are also influenced by the sounds of Chicago/Detroit House and Techno
Mouf - DJ Mouf, is a Portland based, midwest raised and cornbread fed artist who got her start from an HP laptop. Mouf is a multi-talented artist whose main focus is DJing, dancing, modeling, creative directing but can find her doing many more. Mouf, also known as Trouble or Sis-Tah Smokez, is a member of the Portland ballroom community and Portland drag house, House of Smokez. As a midwest baddie Mouf’s sound originates heavily in Detroit and Chicago house music and a sprinkle of NY club/techno bops! It's best to find her spinning on the 1s and 2s or dancing around the room to catch the 3s and 4s.
